Mauricio Mejia


Mauricio Mejia has been working for the City of Pasadena’s Department of Water and Power since 1990. As a Program Manager, he is responsible for developing and managing energy and renewable efficiency programs. He also coordinates initiatives, guidelines, and policies supporting sustainable development.


As founding member of the City of Pasadena’s Green Team, Mauricio played a key role in the city’s adoption of the Green Building Ordinance, the United Nations Urban Environmental Accords, and the U. S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement. He is the City of Pasadena’s liaison to the U.S Green Building Council, California Energy Commission, and California Green Building Guidelines for New Homes Construction. Mauricio is also a collaborating member of the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC).


Mauricio works directly with architects and building professionals in incorporating energy and water efficiencies in LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) building projects. Mauricio was responsible for managing energy, water, and environmentally friendly measures in the recent renovation of the Pasadena City Hall building. The Building achieved LEED-Gold certification in 2008.


Mauricio is widely respected speaker on the areas of sustainability, environmental protection, and green buildings. He is considered a subject matter expert on energy and water efficiency, LEED rating system, Photovoltaic, and green buildings, He has recently presented in the United States, Mexico, Spain, and Argentina.


On June 2004, Mauricio Mejia and Pasadena’s Mayor Bill Bogaard were invited by the Spanish Green Building Council to speak on sustainable construction and the Kyoto Protocol in the S.I.M.A. conference in Madrid, Spain.


On November 2006, Mauricio accompanied Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on a trade mission to Mexico as a representative of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) and helped the governor promote California’s environmental policies and clean energy technologies.


Mauricio Mejia, a native of El Salvador, holds degrees in Business Administration from California State University, Los Angeles and Electrical Engineering from Los Angeles City College. Mauricio is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Energy Analyst (CEA), and LEED Accredited Professional.
