JERRY RUIZ, BOARD VICE PRESIDENT
Jerry J. Ruiz is a Shareholder in the Alvardo Smith’s Los Angeles office and Co-Chair of the Real Estate and Land Use practice group. He represents institutional, corporate and individual clients in real estate and business transactions.
Mr. Ruiz has represented financial institutions in various commercial lending, real estate secured lending and corporate real estate transactions, in addition to documenting equity investments under the federal Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) benefiting low- and moderate-income (LMI) communities. He also represented a private health foundation in its funding of “program related investments” to promote fundamental improvements in the health status of Californians in fourteen targeted LMI communities throughout the state. Mr. Ruiz handled the negotiation and documentation of a long-term ground lease of a municipal park to a UK-based developer of all-weather sports facilities. Additionally, he has represented an institutional client in leasing research and development facilities in Southern California and the disposition of its former headquarters offices.
Prior to joining Alvardo Smith, Mr. Ruiz practiced law for more than 11 years as senior in-house counsel for a Fortune 50 diversified financial services institution and served for more than three years as the bank’s senior community development manager responsible for developing sustainable “double bottom line” relationships with affordable housing developers, small business economic development organizations, charter schools, faith-based institutions and community and advocacy groups in the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area.
